Melody’s not quite as sure about her future as Leon is, it seems…
Thank you to ArtUniverse01 for the question!

Since we got a name for them, /technically/ at the end of the Chapter 2 Intermission, I figure there’s no longer a need to hide it! Everyone say hello to the PARADOX BUBBLES! Don’t worry if they freak you out; you won’t remember them. 🙂
I did some explorations of how exactly I want to imagine them interacting with their environments. I obviously kept the major aspects of them seeming to “burn” anything that comes in contact with them, as well as them clustering together. I wonder what /other/ things the bubbles are capable of? :3c
As an extra bonus, have some nice flora. I’m honestly not too proud of how the plant life here came out, but I’m sure I’ve made up for it elsewhere in the comic!

The person making the ask here – I call him Clockie – was the first to point out that if Trinity and Ms Shepard are identical twins, that would imply that they’re both trans.
I also personally think that Ms Shepard hasn’t gotten any work done nor feels the inclination to present super feminine. She knows what she’s about.

More poncho studies from around the time I was starting the comic! Again, it would be literal years before he actually gets to wear it in the comic, and, naturally, both Leon and the poncho look very different.
At least Leon actually has his iconic tummy here.

For some reason, the Irionitts were a nightmare for me to try and design, which is hilarious because I only planned for like… maybe two to appear in the entirety of the comic? I had the concept in my head like with the other aliens I drew before them; in this case, short little alien critters with robot heads wearing robes. Yet when it came to actually designing the body structure, nothing felt right.
The top designs are okay, but just didn’t really capture the feel of what I was looking for. I instead tried designing them as they would look completely organic and that lead to a much more appealing look (at least in my opinion). Scales like a lizard but with the lower body of a kangaroo, basically.
But the first robot head design with that new body was… terrifying. I think I accidentally channeled some Five Nights At Freddy’s vibes for it. Instead I worked with the idea of designing a head that actually looks like what their organic head used to, and that treated me way better. The goal was to make them a non-threatening curiosity, which they are in the universe.
The Irionitts are a mysterious race. They tend to quietly go around the universe in robes, only speaking to acquire information and resources. What little is known about them is that they seek out information of all kinds; popular belief is that they’re trying to preserve all knowledge in the universe. They all have organic bodies, yet their heads (and presumably their brains) are robotic. They are reluctant to answer why. Nonetheless, their lack of aggression towards other races and presumed good intentions has gained them a protected status in the universe; causing any harm to them is EXTREMELY taboo, and you’ll be lucky to see the light of day after doing so.

I have to assume that Trinity invites every visitor to Foundation A like this. Even the ones that weren’t brought there through time shenanigans.
Another fan piece done by my wonderful friend, AtomicBritt! She does the comic Cirque Royale about the daily lives of a royal clown family, which I’ve been a fan of for a while now. It’s one of those stories that contains the perfect mix of wholesome and heartbreaking. Give it a read sometime!
I particularly appreciate the details in this one. The way she did my style of separated dialogue bubble tails, Luca’s mildly disgruntled expression, how adorable Trinity is… I’m at a loss for words!

I tried out a bunch of different helmet/robot head designs for one of the aliens I was working on. Honestly, I didn’t find really any of them to be particularly satisfying, at least compared to some of the ref images I was using to help inspire me.
Also some random stabs at designing said alien’s head. They felt a little generic.

A special thanks to my friend Ganymedesclock for this! He drew Luca on her way to deliver coffee. Is it for Trinity or Ms Shepard? YOU GUYS MAKE THE CALL.
I absolutely LOVE the way he drew Luca here. The extra patches of light green on her outfit’s shoulders, the magnificent wings, the toe beans… Tragically, I decided early on to not give Tecktrins toe beans, BUT given the genetic variation they’re capable of, some of them must ABSOLUTELY have them.
My friend has been following the comic closely, and frequently been dropping theories, ideas, and questions as its been going on. And I LOVE IT. I have so much respect for Clockie as a creative, so frankly I feel honored that he’s taking such an interest in my story. Thanks, Clockie!

These doodles are originally back from 2016, almost a year before I’d officially start KttFF.
You can see I was doing some explorations of an older version of Leon, as well as getting some practice with him wearing his orange poncho. It would take over 200 pages for him to get that poncho – I actually kept this saved until he’d get it – but you can see how much has changed since these initial sketches! Leon’s proportions, as well as the design of the poncho, have shifted in so many subtle, but noticeable ways.
The older version of him here isn’t very well-crafted here, though, IMO. Looks more tired than anything. Still, I thought it’d be a cute design detail if Leon continued to wear the hat even after it became damaged… but did so by using it as a weird arm decoration. Didn’t stick, but it’s always interesting to go back and see what kind of stuff I was thinking of during these early days!
